Drax the Destroyer is a character portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), most notably in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. He first appeared in live action in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
Originally Arthur Douglas, Drax was a human whose family was murdered by Ronan the Accuser on the orders of Thanos. In response, Kronos transferred Arthur's soul into a powerful humanoid body with the singular purpose of destroying Thanos.
In the MCU, Drax is a physically imposing warrior known for his literal interpretation of language and his raw emotional outbursts. He is deeply scarred, representing the loss of his wife and daughter at the hands of Ronan. He joins the Guardians of the Galaxy to exact revenge and later becomes a loyal and somewhat eccentric member of the team, fighting alongside them against various cosmic threats.
Despite his formidable strength and fighting skills, Drax provides much of the comic relief in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, with his lack of subtlety and understanding of metaphors often leading to humorous situations.
